Update 10/04/07, Some Notes- After completing my army, the new Dark Angels codex was released a little while ago, rendering the structure of this army obsolete. I haven't played with the new rules yet. Keep in mind that what you see here is technically illegal under the current rules. The second squad in this army has been completed, however it is quite similar to the first squad, so I'm in no hurry to take and upload pictures. As a point of interest, I used this army in my first tournament at the start of the year (Arcanacon '07, the largest ever wargaming tournament in the southern hemisphere) and placed 24th out of 131 players. Came in second in the 'Noob' award (1st 'Noob' was ranked 22nd- drats!), and was awarded 3rd place in the 'Players Choice' awards, in which all participants vote for their favourite/best painted army. Strangely enough, in comparison the official painting judges gave me 21/30 for painting... Anyway, on to the article. Update 27/04/09, More Notes- I hadn't really used this army much (read: at all) since the last note, but Arcanacon '09 was coming up and I didnt have a 'new' army so I decided to get these guys back in the game. Obviously with the changes to codex, above, I had to revamp the army. This included splitting into three squads, mixing in some close combat weapons, and swapping the characters for Belial. While I havent updated these pages with the new stuff, you can see Belial here. This army came 6th Overall out of 153 players at Arc '09. A subsequent tournament required a 1500 pt force, in which I added a Land Raider Crusader, Standard Bearer and Medic. Also not added to these pages... That army also came 6th Overall, although only out of 80 players. Hopefully I'll update these pages with pics at some point! When the new Terminator models were released, and Forgeworld shoulderpads available, I couldn't resist the lure of an all-Terminator army. Since there are so few models required for this army, I allowed myself to spare no expense on them. Each Terminator and Vehicle has Forgeworld 'bling', as well as being slightly extended in height and width to greater fit the correct size difference between Power Armour and Tactical Dreadnought Armour. In addition, each model has been painted to almost my best standard (at the time of painting). If you are interested in the Deathwing, I cannot recommend Deathwing Central enough. I have a tutorial available about how my Deathwing were painted here. You can rate my Deathwing at my Cool Mini Or Not Gallery. Without further ado, the army! Headquarters Deathwing Librarian Abbas I must admit, this model is one of my pride and joys. It is roughly based off the design a member of Portent/Warseer forums came up with, in regards to the psychic hood and unusual force weapon design. There was a lot of time spent on it during the conversion and sculpting process and a fair bit in the painting stage as well. The right arm (which was almost holding a Storm Bolter rather than a book, I think the book is better) and banner pole are magnetised for removal during transport, and for a weapon swap if I wish to do one later on. The colour scheme is one that has been commented on a bit, and with good cause. Traditionally, a Librarians armour is entirely blue, however I wanted the commander to fit in with the rest of the army whilst still retaining a display of its status. Hence the blue shoulderpads and kneepads. While I do love this model, it rarely does much for me during the game- mostly just standing around and looking pretty as the rest of the force does all the hard work. Still, an army does need a commander!
Deathwing Chaplain This model is one of the best sculpts around. I'm usually
not such a fan of chaplains, but I fell in love with this model the moment
I laid eyes on it. I didn't intend to use this model in games, but I might
try it out a couple of times to see how it goes. Since this photo it has
been varnished and had static grass added to the base, but this photo
does it justice better than any I have taken since completion. I left
out any text on the front scroll because I wasn't quite comfortable with
my ability to to it justice- I would have hated to mess up the scroll
which I am quite happy with as is.
